When my boyfriend asked me what I wanted from Duty Free on way his way back from Dubai, it didn’t take me long to utter out the words; a red lipstick from Chanel, please and thank you. I also mentioned to him to pick a matte formula [ not asking for much here..lool ]. I always stick to a classic red with a matte formula whenever I’m trying a lipstick from a brand that’s new to me, that way, I can be absolute sure, it’s going to be a perfect match on me and one that I can wear often especially when one lipstick from the said brand costs a whopping £28, still cheaper than Tom Ford though.
He chose for me 169 Rouge Tentation -a deep red with cool undertones, vibrant in colour and rich in texture with a satin finish. I wasn’t mad that this wasn’t matte as requested. I feel in love with this luxurious texture after the first swipe. It’s actually nice to have a red lipstick that isn’t matte for once. He did good. Chanel describes this as a vibrant and luminous lipstick. An ultra-fine, melt-away and second-skin texture, a palette of intense shades. A bold and daring style. Resulting in a deep, radiant and satiny makeup. Perfect wear from the very first stroke.
I was surprised when I opened the black and gold box to find a sleek luminous black case with white logo font on the bottom and a gold embossed interlocked ‘CC’ logo on the bottom. I had always known Chanel lipsticks to come in the traditional lipstick packaging where you pull the lid off. But I like this new one. A lot. One has to push the gold bottom in, this then releases the lipstick which is housed in beautiful gold bullet tube. It doesn’t get oh la la chic-er than this. I’m eyeing up their new limited edition – Intense Red for the holidays.
Upon close inspection of the lipstick in the bullet [ Lie: I was fascinated by the embossed ‘CHANEL’ logo in the lipstick ], I noticed the tiny sparkles that gives the lips luminosity. It’s not chunky glitter that clings on even after you’ve removed the lipstick. The formula combines a blend of green tea, sweet almond oil and an adherent ester for long wear and optimal protection of colours, Sweet almond oil, sappan wood and green tea for smoothed, moisturised and protected lips and a high concentration of ultra-thin pigments for intense shades.
It’s truly a formula that is hydrating and long wearing, it’s packed with pigment that intensifies with every swipe unlike some satin finish lipsticks, the more you swipe, the colour fades or worse, gets patchy. Not this one.
I’m in love. Gimme me everything C H A N E L !!!
