HAPPY NEW YEAR! This year I am not going to write a long list of resolutions and things that I know very well, I am not going to adhere to. I know myself and let’s just say I am not that disciplined. I like the idea and enjoy opening up a fresh new page in my planner and jotting down the first note and writing up a to-do or goal list. I did exactly that for 2017 and gave it up two months later and resorted back to my usual routine of jotting things here, there everywhere and planning and crossing out things as I go along. One of the main things I wanted to achieve last year was to take this blog full -time. It didn’t happen and I am not disappointed nor would I call it a failure. Things happen. Life happens. Other responsibilities happen. Adult-ing happens and those required my attention more than my little corner on the internet. I’ve always love the idea of working from home, doing some thing I love and best of all, earning from it. That was the dream which was far from my reality. My reality was and still is waking up at 2am to go to work, come home in the afternoon, have a nap and work on the blog later but often at times, that nap turns into a full blown sleep and before I know it, the week is over and I have created no content. the weekend approaches but then there are a long list of other things that needs my attention and the blog then takes a back step. Again. Let’s be real here; I was often tempted to quit my job and see if it would work out but I have bills to pay.
This was my challenge throughout the year and found myself blogging less and less. I lost interest in fashion and style and found nothing inspiring enough to blog about. The challenge of finding a photographer near me who was available on call due to my constant schedule change meant most outfit shoots that were planned never happened. My Instagram took a hit in decline in terms of growth and engagements due to lack of posts thereof. I took a two week break from it with no intention of coming back till a received messages from some of my lovely followers who questioned my whereabouts. [ Thanks to those who took time to check on me whilst I was M.I.A ]. I did question myself at times whether it’s worth it or should I just give it all up? It was so disheartening to see all the handwork and effort put into content creating it not reaching anyone due to some stupid algorithm so I turned my focus to YouTube which I had neglected for a while.
I found that I enjoyed planning and creating content at my own pace with minimum pressure. The launch of Fenty Beauty and Glossier got me all excited about makeup and skincare. I bought more lipsticks – about 20 in total than any fashion or clothing items. That’s where all my money went. That and Chai Tea Lattes- my new obsession. Skincare and Beauty took over my love of fashion in no time and this seem the prefect fit for creating and reviewing content over the YouTube channel so I stuck with it. The only fashion items I purchased were from the H&M Erdem’s collection and some heels I had been stalking for ages from Kurt Geiger [ see feature pic]. They will make some appearance on here soon.
In terms of Travel, I ticked more places off my 2016 list than I did in 2017. I’m praying I’ll be able to make up for it in 2018. I am still grateful that I was able to visit Paris for a day [ post and video here ], went back home to Austria and visited Innsbruck and actually enjoyed hiking for the first time [ post here] . A summer wedding meant a delightful trip to Tel Aviv [ post coming soon ] and a surprise birthday day trip [ which turned to a night stay due to snow ] in Amsterdam for my boyfriend.
So that was my 2017 summed up. I am hoping to grow this year both personally and spiritually and of course, with the blog and the Yaa.Lia brand too. I hope and pray for motivation, determination and the strength to carry on and pull through any challenges. I pray all our hopes and dreams come to pass in Jesus’s name. My aim in 2018 to is carry on blogging as frequently as I did back in 2016. I was posting 3x a week on an average. I might have to resort to taking outfit pictures myself. It may not be to the standard I’m used to but I do love blogging and miss it terribly and is also equally frustrating when you have all these plans in your mind and can’t bring them to life because you need the help or need to rely on someone. It would be great to have my own in house photographer who can really capture the vision instead of just taking a picture. I can’t be sitting on my bum all day when I can do it myself. Something’s gotta give here. I also hope to work with more and bigger brands this year. Many thanks to Freixinet, Chilli’s Bottle, World Duty Free, Konjac Sponge, Elemis , The Langham Hotel and others for working with me last year. Hoping and praying for bigger brand sponsorships this year.
Here’s to a great 2018. What are you hoping to achieve at the end of this year?
Happy New Year everyone! cheers [ clink, clink]
Verse of the day:-
19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
