Ve [ ry ] nice.
Better late than never.
Looking through other people’s travel blogs and reading about their Venice visit just brought back some really nice memories from my trip back in April. I came to check on my blog to take a trip down memory only to discover, I never actually documented this trip except for the outfit and this amazing editorial shoot that blew up my Instagram.
We visited for a weekend break and before we even got there, I knew Venice will be that kind of city that I fall in love with and lo and behold, I certainly did. I got to experience so many things for the first time like riding on a water taxi, did a canal tour on a gondola (a must in Venice) and got my first taste of what it was like to be a ‘ celebrity’ – cough cough.
What I loved most about this city on water was the old rustic and colourful buildings hidden behind the tiny alleys. Getting lost in Venice was the best way to discover and find hidden gems around the Giudecca Island where we stayed at the Hilton Milono Stucky- an old redbrick flour mill, now restored into a luxurious hotel. we spent our Saturday walking around this island and stayed mostly indoors as it rained pretty much all day. we watched the ‘Tourist’ on Netflix which was set in Venice and made our trip even more fun as practically tried to find some of the places in the movie when we went sightseeing once it stopped raining.
Things were very interesting the next day as we headed out into the city centre for a shoot, wearing a gown. Other tourists loved my gown as much as I did. The shoot was planned to take place on a gondola so I had no choice but to wear my dress at the hotel before we headed out. I noticed i was getting a lot of attention walking through the narrow streets to get to our sport for the shoot. A lot of people stopped us only to complement the look. Attention was never planned or expected but was welcome as I truly loved the dress.
We headed back to the Giudecca Island after the shoot and sat at the entrance of the hotel watching big ship and boats pass by, indulging in some tasty seafood and watching the world go by. We recounted and reflected on the past two days and noted how amazing they had been. Apart from the shoot, we didn’t do anything hectic nor go out of our way to visit sights but yet came back with so many beautiful memories. I guess spontanuity has its allure and paid off big well this time round. After our trip, Venice is officially my favourite city and can’t wait to visit again soon and check out Burano Island which we did not get to see last time round.
Here are more pictures. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do 🙂
What’s your favourite city?
Have a great weekend 🙂
